Institute Of Management Development and Research

The Deccan Education Society (DES) was established in 1884 by India's freedom fighters like AGARKAR and TILAK, and later led by personalities like GOPAL KRISHNA GOKHALE and DHONDO KESHAV KARVE, who was honored with Bharat Ratna. The DES adopted a democratic structure when modern democratic practice was new in India.

The society's institutions, which number 30 today, are unique in that teachers participate in academic and administrative matters. Fergusson College was the first institution to win nationwide acclaim for its academic standards and played a significant role in shaping Maharashtra's social and developmental processes.

The DE Society aimed to provide affordable education to wider sections of society. The Society's liberal-democratic values integrated Western scientific and rationalist traditions with India's pluralistic culture.
