The University of Mumbai, previously known as the University of Bombay, is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in India. It was established in 1857, making it one of the first three universities in India after the implementation of “Wood’s Education Dispatch”.
The name of the University was changed from “University of Bombay” to “University of Mumbai” after the name of the city was changed from Bombay to Mumbai in 1996, following a notification issued by the Government of Maharashtra and published in the Government Gazette.
The University of Mumbai has been accorded 5-star status in 2001 and ‘A’ grade status in April 2012 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
The University is committed to providing quality education to students and has a history of producing successful and accomplished alumni.
