5 Things to Consider Before Choosing the Best law colleges in Ahmedabad

1. Eligibility

We must check if the college we are applying to fits with our current educational status. Some colleges make it mandatory for the students to have cleared the various entrance exams such as CLAT and do the admission process based on that.

While some colleges just want the students to be graduated with a decent score in any discipline. Some colleges also offer 5 years integrated program for which you just need to have passed the 12th-grade examination.

2. Availability of seat

often some colleges have limited seats for the courses. Hence it is important for us to have knowledge about it. This helps us in applying for the colleges carefully and on time.

3. Faculty

A good faculty has a great influence on the education being imparted. Hence, a little research about the faculty helps you make a great choice.

4. Alumni

A University having good alumni proves to be a great help for our careers. Their experience and knowledge always inspire us.

5. Moot Court and other activities

Moot Court provides us with practical knowledge about the law world. Other activities such as debates and Law quizzes should also be encouraged as it develops the student in a great manner. Campus life and other facilities such as a library, hostels, etc. should also be taken into consideration.

Conclusion

Choosing Law as a career is an extremely great idea! But the hassle of the Admission Process is many times very confusing and tiring. Having a good college is a very crucial life choice and must be made very carefully. Hopefully, this will provide some basic knowledge by providing some help for you to enjoy your college life to the fullest with satisfaction.

About Law:

“Law is a system of rules that are created and enforced through social or governmental institutions to regulate behavior.”

Law is considered to be the most prestigious profession since the beginning of time. From the time of the British rule or even before, India has seen the rise of some eminent great minds.

Law education in India dates back to the year 1987. Law is a set of categorized rules and regulations under which a society or a country is governed.

The Bar Council of India (BCI) is the main regulatory body of Law education in India.

The first law university in India was established in Bangalore and was named as ‘Nation Law School of India University’.

Before 1884, this course was only of 3 years but upon the suggestion made by the Law Commission of India and the Bar Council of India specialized Law Universities solely devoted to legal education were established, which provided a multi-disciplinary and integrated approach to the legal education of our country.

Currently, there are 16 National Law Universities in India. Apart from that, there are about 100 other law schools as well.

3-Year LLB course versus 5-Year LLB course. Which is better?

Every law faculty is asked this question by a large number of students. The answer is very simple. Both courses are equally good and they should not be compared in the first place simply because they serve two different audiences.
If a candidate is a Class 12 student or has already passed out, he should go for the five-year law without giving any thought to the three-year course in the future.
There’s no doubt that both the three-year and five-year courses should co-exist in an equitable manner; this is in the best interest of legal education and profession.

Top 10 CLAT Coaching institute in Jaipur

The Common Law Admission Test, shortly called as CLAT is a centralized national graduate level law examination.

Before the introduction of this common examination for law, each law school had a separate entrance examination, which in turn created difficulties for students who appeared for more than one examination as the examination dates overlapped with various schools.

After much consideration, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by seven National Law universities to conduct a common admission test.

Now, around 21 National Law universities take in students based on the results of this common entrance examination to learn courses like BA LLB, B.Com LLB and B.Sc. LLB.

CLAT is an online examination which is conducted by National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi annually all over India.

best clat coaching in jaipur

The test generally consists of 200 questions for students wanting to pursue LLB and 150 questions for students wanting to pursue LLM.

While each correct answer carries one mark, each wrong answer causes a deduction of one-fourth of a mark, i.e. it carries negative marks.

The syllabus for CLAT is generalized as it covers General Mathematics, General Knowledge, Aptitude and Verbal.

The exam is entirely made of multiple choice questions, and the paper is divided into five sections with each section carrying separate marks, which cumulatively result in a score of 200. The sections are:

  • English Comprehension – 40 marks
  • General Knowledge – 50 marks
  • Mathematics- 20 marks
  • Legal Aptitude- 50 marks
  • Logical Reasoning – 40 marks

With over 50,000 students taking part in the test on an average annually, the competitiveness of the exam has reached higher limits and thus the difficulty level of the questions have also been increased correspondingly.

Taking up Litigation/Practice as Profession: By becoming a lawyer who can solve the cases of common man, the students have unlimited opportunities as lawyers with pretty decent salaries that vary. However, in order to practice law, one has to clear the examination of Bar Council of India.

Teaching/ Lectureship: The rise in the demand for law practitioners has created the need for more law teachers and professors. The job has fixed working hours, and the salary package is good.

Public sector jobs or Banking jobs: With the growing number of self-reliant organizations, each firm has started to have their own legal departments. This has created job opportunities for law graduates in public sector units, banks and corporate organizations. Although private sectors provide relatively low salaries, there is a possible hike in the salary based on career growth.

Corporate law services: One of the most sought after career opportunities after completing law degree is the job in the Ministry of Finance under the Central Civil Services which is also one of the highest paying jobs in India.
Indian Judiciary: One can become a judge by clearing State level Judiciary exams. However, the promotion as a High Court judge takes years of experience.

How to prepare for CLAT?

clat coaching in jaipur fees

Analyzing the Syllabus: It is necessary first to understand the structure and weightage of the syllabus and then analyze the sections that you need to give more attention to. It is generally advised to give extra focus to Legal Aptitude and General knowledge or Current affairs which consume half of the weightage of the exam

Practising through Mock tests: The amount of learning and studying did may go in vain without practising mock tests prior to the exams. Mock tests help you to manage your time efficiently and will make you understand on what areas you need to spend more time and on what areas you need to spend less time during the examination.

Solving previous year question papers: By solving previous year question papers, you get accustomed to the question pattern and the difficulty level of the questions. You can also get an idea on how to solve the similar type of questions that occur repetitively through the years.

The selection of question: It is necessary to think smart and avoid questions that consume too much of your time and questions whose answers you are not quite sure of. Answering all the questions in the exam is not what matters, the ability to answer to the question correctly even if you haven’t covered all the questions matters.

Reading Newspapers: You cannot study current affairs in one day. It is a consistent preparation by reading newspapers daily. By reading newspapers, you get to know more about the current happenings in the country which are most probably questioned to you in the exam under the General Knowledge section.

Preparing a proper study schedule: Preparing a proper and realistic schedule helps you achieve better scores. Organized learning helps relieve stress and eleventh-hour cramming.

Ability to stay motivated: It is crucial to stay motivated all through the time of preparation as it is the will power and determination that makes you score better.

Although self-preparation with organized study schedules and mock tests helps you achieve better, the enthusiasm and consistency in preparation drain out after a certain period of time naturally.

By joining CLAT coaching, you get the extra push, which helps you score higher targets and brings out the best potential in you.

“Law is a system of rules that are created and enforced through social or governmental institutions to regulate behavior.”

Top 15 CLAT Coaching Centres in Chandigarh

CLAT is the abbreviation for the Common Law Admission Test held annually during the middle of the year by law universities and schools.

This admission test holds both the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes’ common entrance test for India.

Aspiring candidates, who had to sit for individual initially, institutional examinations now, have to appear for one common test in order to choose from their preferred universities based on their scores.

A rotating committee of universities whose turns are decided by their seniority conducts the LLM and LLB entrance examinations through CLAT.

Apart from the 21 National Law Universities, 45 other affiliated institutions also avail the admission test to screen in potential candidates for admission.

Once a candidate has scored the mandatory marks required in the Senior Secondary Examination and his respective Bachelor’s Degree, he is eligible to sit for the CLAT LLB and LLM respectively.

Formerly, candidates wishing to advance a career in law would have to sit separately for the individual universities offering the law courses in India.

This stripped the students of their valuable time and caused immense convenience for those who wished to appear in other major all-India examinations.

Often the law dates would clash with those of Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination and All India Pre Medical Test.

Therefore, career choices dwindled, and several students were prone to take year gaps just for the sake of appearing in the entrances.

For SC and ST candidates, the relaxation is extended to an additional 5% (40%). CLAT does not maintain an upper age-limit restriction; therefore, candidates may choose to sit for the examination in any year of their lives.

However, the Indian law universities may have their respective age-restrictions, which CLAT does not take part in.

For the postgraduates (LLM)

To appear for the postgraduate CLAT, one must pass with an equivalent Bachelor degree from a recognised university. One must hold at least 55% aggregate in their passing marks (a 5% relaxation for SC and ST candidates) and those who cleared the supplementary examination are eligible for the entrance provided that they score 55% in the aggregate and produce the required documents at the respective universities during the date of admission.

LLB Examination pattern

CLAT lasts for a total of 2 hours, which includes 200 multiple-choice questions. The question paper is segregated into different subject-based sections.

so that students would have to answer topics from General Knowledge and Current Affairs (50), Legal Aptitude (40), Logical Reasoning (50), English language (40) and Elementary Mathematics (20).

list of clat coaching in bhopal

CLAT harbours a negative-marking scheme; hence, for every wrongly attempted answer, one shall witness a deduction 0.25 marks whereas every right answer carries one mark.

Admission allocation

Previously, CLAT required aspiring candidates to fill in their preferred universities in their application forms. Based on ranks scored in the examination, the students were allocated universities of their preference. However, since CLAT 2011, the system of prior choosing was expelled, and now candidates are required to make a list of their preferred universities after the announcement of the results.
